How to Straighten Your Hair with a Blow Dryer
The market has been overtaken with pricey flat irons and thermal
products to protect your hair from the high heat they use to style it.
This forces us to strain our budgets, or make do with what we already
have in our beauty arsenal. The blow dryer has been around since the
70’s and, with the right comb and brush, no other tools are needed to
straighten and de fuzz your hair. Considering the savings, it is a hair
styling technique that is well worth learning. As with most beauty
routines, practice makes perfect. Follow the steps below and spend your
hard earned money on a great pair of earrings!

- Shampoo and condition your hair with products made specifically
for your hair type. Towel dry as long as you need to, and consider
maximizing this time by applying your makeup while your hair is up
in a towel.
- Run a heat tolerance product through your hair, paying attention
to the fragile ends. If you have it on hand, use a hair
straightening balm. If you have not bought anything, see how your
hair styles without it. Many find it is not needed.
- Finger pick through your hair. This is an easy to learn
technique in which you detangle and smooth your hair with your
fingers. It is the gentlest way to work with your hair. A wide tooth
comb with no seams is also fine to use.
- Begin to blow dry your hair on a low setting, as you continue to
pick through your hair. This will help to remove excess water if
there is no time to towel dry.
- Divide your hair into 3 sections and pull apart to separate. Two
at the sides and one in the back works well.
- From the unclipped section, take a small amount of hair and
begin to blow dry. Using a round brush, begin at the roots gently
pulling the brush through the hair. Pull away from your head,
straightening as you go.
- Focus on keeping the tension consistent in your wrist as you
distribute the heat evenly using downward strokes. This will
minimize the time of heat on your hair.
- Continue to move through the sections with the same technique
until your hair is completed. Time actually spent doing this will
speed up as you gain confidence and finesse with your technique.
A few tips will help you in your quest to make the most of your blow
dryer. Always direct the hair flow downward. This minimizes fly away and
frizzy dos. Use large jaw clips to section off hair. After you are
finished drying, set the air temperature on cool and gives your hair a
nice finish. The cool setting will help close follicles and seal in
moisture at the same time. No matter how hi tech the blow dryer you are
using, unplug from the electrical outlet, though the tool is turned off,
they can overheat and cause a fire. Take an extra second and unplug!
